The CCAWR Looks To The Future
Hello Community!
It’s been a whirlwind four weeks: the anti-racism solidarity march, calls to defund the police and new project proposals. The CCAWR has been front-and-centre for the issues and events impacting our Region and constituents. Thanks to everyone who made their voices heard and lent their support – much appreciated!
As the CCAWR prepares to meet the challenges and opportunities of the community in the years ahead, we need you! Here are five ways you can partner with us to make a difference to our community:
1. Become a CCAWR Board Member
The CCAWR is a non-profit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. We are seeking new board members from a diverse range of ages, genders, backgrounds and experiences to better serve our community. The first requirement to serve on the Board is agreement with our Mission and Vision. Second, the ability to volunteer between 10 and 20 hours each month, depending on the time of year. Learn more about our current Board. If you are interested, send an email to president@ccawr.ca or to secretary@ccawr.ca, or give us a call at 519-997-2780 or at 1-888-306-7772. We would love to hear from you!
2. Become a general member of the CCAWR
Our members are kept informed of events, programs and initiatives of interest to the community. We also represent our members’ interests to local government, corporations, police services and other interested parties. We are nonpartisan and hold to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Membership dues support our administrative costs, allowing us to deploy 100% of our donations to scholarships and other charitable endeavours. Visit our Membership page for more information. We do not sell or share member contact information.
3. Donate to the CCAWR
In the past 45 years, the CCAWR has awarded over $40,000 in scholarships to students from this Region. We’ve hosted multiple educational and social events, such as Black History Month presentations, theatrical performances and Caribbean Connexion. Our events and programming will continue to grow and evolve, and your financial support increases our ability to impact our community in meaningful ways. See our Fundraising page for more information.
4. Volunteer with the CCAWR
Do you have skills, knowledge and expertise but have limited time to serve on the Board? Visit our Volunteer page to learn more about what we do and how you can assist.
5. Spread the word about our 2020 Scholarships for University and College Students
Scholarships in the amount of $1,500 or $2,000 are available to students from the Region of Waterloo, of Caribbean heritage. Do you know of a high school student starting university of college in the fall? Do you know of a college or university student from this area who is continuing his/her studies in the upcoming academic year? Encourage them to apply before the July 15th deadline, or visit our Scholarship Inquiry page to learn more!
We’re looking forward to the next 45 years! Join us and help us create a better future for our community.

P.S. Yesterday, June 14th, would have been our annual Family Brunch. Sadly, we were not able to host the event this year, but not to worry- we’ll have another Lime when public health guidelines allow. For now, take a look at the memories from the 2019 CCAWR Family Brunch.
