CCAWR Scholarships - Now Open for 2021
April-04-2021
The CCAWR scholarship program had a successful year and continues to grow from strength to strength. Last year, despite the challenges of COVID-19, a record number of scholarships were awarded. The CCAWR, and our partner The Congress of Black Women of Waterloo Region, continue to support the talent and excellence of young Black people from our local community as they pursue their post-secondary academic dreams.
VINCENT SMITH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: $3,000
This year we are pleased to announce that one of our premier awards, the Vincent Smith Memorial Scholarship will have its value increased to $3,000 in 2021. Many thanks to the support and generous ongoing donation from one of our local community businesses, Raffi Jewellers.
Vincent Smith was a modest man and he was a leader in the Caribbean community who impacted the lives of many who crossed his path. One of his many passions was to help young Black people in our community to uplift themselves and pursue education beyond secondary school. He was always there to give a helping hand, a gentle push, and this scholarship will help to achieve his vision and legacy.
We are also pleased to share that Vincent has been inducted into the Waterloo Region Museum’s Hall of Fame in recognition of his contributions to the region as an educator, community and spiritual leader.
APPLICATIONS FOR SCHOLARSHIPS OPEN APRIL 1ST
As local Caribbean students make their decisions for university or college, we wanted the remind everyone that applications for this year’s scholarships will be open from April 1st through July 15th. Several scholarships of $1,500 or more will be available in 2021, so please visit our website for more details.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT
We are forever grateful for the support of our local community that have attended our events or provided us with generous donations to support the scholarship program. Without your support, this could not be a reality and we look forward to a successful 2021.
