Rhythm & Blues Cambridge Love Day
Rhythm & Blues Cambridge is a grassroots community association with a mandate to provide a safe and engaging space to empower, inform, and inspire the Black community. Our programs and events are designed to promote and appreciate the Black experience. We are a women-led group that is working tirelessly to make Cambridge a place where all Black families feel empowered and connected with our rich and diverse history.
For Black History Month 2024, we are hosting our Black Love Day event on Saturday, February 17th at Cambridge Community Players, formerly Galt Little Theatre. This is a fitting space for our event as this was originally the home of the first Black Baptist church in Galt, organised in 1876.
Black Love Day has been celebrated for the past 30 years with a singular purpose, to demonstrate love, forgiveness, and acceptance among Black people.
During the afternoon of February 17th, we will be celebrating with special guest and Grammy Nominated Yasus Asfari, a dub poet, author, and reggae artist from Jamaica. Our Master of Ceremonies for the event will be Dwayne Morgan, a well-known poet, author, and motivational speaker. There will be performances, an art activity for families to enjoy along with an open mic time providing an opportunity for audience participation, along with delicious food and beverages. We expect this event will attract 180+ attendees.
